Let me preface this post
I love Christmas.
But, since having children, I haven’t really loved Christmas as much as I used too. Mostly, because now I am “The Mom”. And it sucks being “The Mom” at Christmas.
You know why?
Because “The Mom” does everything.
It has taken me 35 years to figure out why my Mom was so grumpy at Christmas. She had to plan the meals, shop for the meals, make the meals. She had to know what all 4 of us wanted for Christmas, find those presents, wrap those presents and stay up late on Christmas Eve to put the presents out for us and fill our stockings. She planned the games, the company, the family photos, the EVERYTHING!
Um, Mom’s make Christmas.
Yes, my Dad helped. And yes Zed helps. But, you still have to be organized enough to tell them what to do in order for them to help. Carving the turkey does not make you a Christmas hero, buddy.
And because of all this, I have started a new Christmas tradition.
It’s the Christmas movie. It’s 2 hours for Zed and I to open our gifts and not have to worry about our coffees being knocked over or the kids trying to eat our candy from our stocking.
Year one it was, “The Wiggles”.
Year two it was, “Dora’s Christmas”.
Year three it was, “Curious George”.
We haven’t decided on this years yet. But, if you also pull this stunt so you can have two hours on Christmas morning, I have a suggestion.
Sidenote: Do not tell my Mom about this. When I was a kid we were so busy reading, playing board games, and lauging at Christmas, I totally forgot we even had a t.v.
