OITNB in YYC…

Yup. You read that title correctly, OITNB (Orange Is The New Black) author Piper Kerman is going to be in YYC (Calgary) on April, 14 2016!

I know.

I KNOW!

If you hang out here at Mommy’s Weird, you know that I am a huge fan of the show and can hardly wait for the next season to start. The last 3 episodes of last season had me freaking out.

Well, you know what has me freaking out even more?

Piper Kerman, the real inspiration for Orange is the new Black will be telling her story at a special fundraising event for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary.   A few of my friends were able to hear her speak in San Jose last year and they said that her story was amazing to hear live, plus she brings the belly laughs.

“The View from Behind Bars an evening with Piper Kerman at MacLeod Hall in Calgary”, also includes a silent auction plus an option to buy premium seating to the event which includes a signed copy of Piper’s book Orange is the new Black, my year in Women’s Prison.  I already have the book, its a great read, but very different from the Netflix series.

SO WHY AM I TELLING YOU ABOUT THIS?

Sorry.

Screaming.

Cover your ears.

I AM TELLING YOU ABOUT THIS NOW BECAUSE TICKETS ARE ON SALE! And its almost Christmas so you should buy some to take your Mom, or your sister or your sister inlaw, or your best friend or your boss. Hell, I don’t care who you take. Just take them. You will not regret it.

Don’t make me yell again.

Okay, I am going to be calm this go around and nicely remind you that tickets are on sale now for this amazing fundraiser and a chance to hear this remarkable women speak live.

Oh, before I forget you must read this story. Its beyond anything I have ever heard of. A woman named Raylene Belanger wrote a cook book about food you can make while in jail with the ingredients you are given. It is a pretty wicked story. Yup, you too can make a Bail Burrito or Convict Coffee for supper tonight. 

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary offers help, healing and hope to vulnerable women and youth impacted by poverty, legal and justice issues. The not-for-profit agency provides practical programs, basic necessities and connections to community resources, with the goal of creating more hopeful futures.
