I’ve been so hooked on Suburgatory, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Modern Family, The Middle and Parenthood that I haven’t been spending much time watching movies.
Wow.
That is a lot of t.v.
Whatever.
I don’t have much going for me lately.
So, when I finally could convince Zed to watch “Won’t Back Down” and not watch “World War II in HD Colour” on Netflix or Net Flakes, as my kids call it, I was excited.
This is a great movie. The acting is superb. Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal just kill it in this movie. If I knew them, I would send them flowers. But, I don’t know them and that would be cray-cray.
The opening scene haunted me for the entire movie. And the closing scene, well it brought me smiles all day today. I mean that. It really did. I thought about it many times today. Mostly, because I am freaked the hell out with sending my daughter to school. So, this movie really hit close to home. Maybe too close. I am seriously thinking about home schooling.
But, then I heard you have to actually “teach” the kids AND feed them lunch. Sounds like a lot of work to me. And, I’m not so into that.
This is what the 20th Century Fox people have to say about the movie….
Oscar® Nominees Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis* lead a stellar cast in this empowering drama inspired by actual events. Hard-working single mom Jamie Fitzpatrick (Gyllenhaal) is concerned that John Adams Elementary is letting her daughter down. Teaming with a caring teacher (Davis) who wants the best future for her own son, she sets out to improve attitudes and elevate the school’s academic standards. Despite the odds, with courage, hope and persistence, the women just might prevail in this uplifting film that also stars Rosie Perez and Academy Award® Winner Holly Hunter**.
